Engine powered leaf blowers are an easy way
to deal with fallen leaves and
grass clippings.
They can be either gas or electric
powered
and come in a variety of sizes
and weights.
Some can also be used as vacuums.
The following
should be considered when buying
a power
leaf blower:
- Electric models are the quietest and lightest
weight. They are usually the least expensive
($30 to $100) but are also the least powerful.
They do not give off noxious fumes, but since
they must be plugged in to an electrical
outlet, their range is limited by the length
of an extension cord, making them sometimes
hard to use in larger yards.
- Handheld gas models are the smallest but
are the least powerful of the gas types.
They are the least expensive ($70 to $200)
and are more suitable for smaller yards.
- Backpack gas blowers are more powerful and
can handle large areas without the nuisance
of an electric cord, but they can weigh up
to 20 pounds, making them too heavy for some
users. They cost between $300 and $450.
- The most powerful leaf blowers are wheeled
machines. They can weigh up to 125 pounds
and cost up to $1000. These models are very
popular with professional landscapers and
those with heavily wooded large lots.
Remember to check local ordinances when using
engine powered leaf blowers. Some communities
restrict the hours or length of use because
of the annoying noise they produce. |
