Bathroom Grab Bars
Bathroom grab bars are metal tubes (either
straight or curved) that are
used on tubs
and around toilet seats to help
people raise
and lower themselves and in showers
to provide
stability while standing. When
purchasing
these bars, here are a few things
to consider:
- Straight bars are generally
- installed on the wall(s) in a shower and
around a toilet if the walls are close
- available in various lengths starting at
12" to meet your needs and situation
- installed horizontally, vertically or at
a slant, whichever would give you the best
gripping position
- grooved or covered with an anti-slip material
to ensure a firm grip
- Curved bars are generally
- used on the side of a tub with bars having
more bends than the usual
U-shape providing
more opportunities for gripping
at various
heights while getting in
or out
- around a toilet seat if straight bars on
the wall(s)are not appropriate
