| Overview |
Paperwhites are members of the narcissus
family of bulbs. They are extremely
easy
to grow indoors and are traditional
during
the winter holiday season. They
have many
musky-sweet fragrant flowers
per stem. Planted
in groups of five to seven bulbs,
the white
flowers grow from 10 to 14 inches
tall. The
following should be considered
when buying
paperwhite bulbs:
- Note how long the bulbs will take to bloom,
usually 3 to 4 weeks.
- Make sure all bulbs are dry and firm. Discard
any that feel mushy.
Plant paperwhite bulbs in shallow
containers
in soil, pebbles or glass beads.
Cover bulbs
to the neck and water so that
the water level
remains just below the base of
the bulb.
Flower stems may need some staking.
Once
in bloom, cooler room temperatures
prolong
flowering time. |
