Teeth Whitening
Yellow or stained teeth are frequently looked
upon as a sign of bad hygiene.
Teeth yellow
normally from exposure to smoke
and food
in the absence of diligent brushing.
Over
time, the staining becomes deeper
and more
difficult to remove.
In recent months, whitening toothpastes
have
been upstaged by whitening strips
and gels
that work by extended contact
with the teeth.
Dental whitening using light
to speed the
process has also become a popular
cosmetic
service at the dentist's office.
- Whitening toothpaste - regular brushing with
a whitening tooth paste can
improve teeth
color over time.
- Home bleaching - a low strength bleaching
solution is applied to the teeth for an extended
time to bleach the stains. A low cost approach
that requires diligent use to achieve results.
- Professional bleaching - a stronger bleach
is applied in the dentist's office with protection
for the gums applied before the bleach solution.
Least difficult but most expensive approach.
All three methods, when used as directed,
are generally considered safe, although users
should be aware that they will not affect
the color of crowns. |
