Fireplace Screens
Fireplace screens are a traditional way of
covering an open hearth. Screens are essential
for wood burning fireplaces that are not
equipped with their own screens or doors
as they protect the room from falling logs
and small bits of burning wood thrown off
by a fire. Screens also give gas fireplaces
a finished look. Most screens frames are
made of metals such as brass, steel or iron,
and the screening is made of see through
wire mesh.
The following should be considered
when buying
a fireplace screen:
- Measure the height and width of the fireplace
opening. The screen should cover the opening
by several extra inches.
- A single panel screen will have to be moved
when lighting the fire or adding
logs. Double
or triple panel folding screens
can be folded
back, but they are more likely
to tip over.
- Consider the style of your room and fireplace.
Simple screens suit more rustic fireplaces;
more elaborately patterned screens go with
formal looks.
Before buying a fireplace screen, you may
alsow want to check to see if you can purchase
matching fireplace accessories, such as fireplace
tools (tongs, broom, poker and shovel) and
log holders. |
