Protective Floor Mats
Protective floor mats are commonly used in
entryways and foyers to protect floors from
dirt and water brought in from the street
or yard. They can also be used along hallways,
walkways or paths.
Mats made from polypropylene
can be used
indoors or outside; they have
a ridged surface
that makes them excellent dirt
scrapers.
Polyester mats are for indoor
use only, but
they are less expensive. They
have a cut
pile look which picks up dirt
and moisture.
These mats are generally manufactured
in
sizes from 2 feet by 3 feet up
to 4 feet
by 8 feet.
Look for the following when buying
protective
mats:
- Mats should have a heavy duty non-slip vinyl
backing.
- Mats should not curl at the edges, shrink
due to wetness or crack from
cold weather.
- The top surface should be crush resistant
and absorbant.
- The mat should be stain and fade resistant.
- Darker colors will show less dirt, but mats
also come in mixed blends of
colors which
hide dirt effectively.
These mats can be used seasonally
to protect
floors from rain, snow, ice and
mud or year
round to reduce wear on fine
floor finishes.
Clean the mats by sweeping, vacuuming
or
washing with clear water. |
