Leather Furniture
Leather upholstery adds instant warmth and
relaxed elegance to any room. Leather is
most commonly used on sofas, sectional sofas,
chairs, benches and ottomans. Prices for
these pieces can vary enormously depending
on the quality of frame construction and
the grade of the leather. If properly taken
care of, good leather furniture can last
for decades, as the leather softens and mellows
with age.
The following should be considered
when buying
leather furniture:
- Look for kiln dried, double doweled hardwood
frames that will stand up to heavy use for
many years.
- Heavy gauge steel springs and high resiliency
foam padding are important
for comfort.
- Cushions should be made of high quality foam.
They can be wrapped in fiber,
feather or
down for added softness.
- The leather used should come from top grade,
full grained hides. The dyes
used to color
the leather should make it
look completely
natural.
Remember that processes such as waxing can
be used on leather furniture to make it look
naturally aged. |
