Decorative Mirrors
Decorative mirrors add interest and beauty
to any room. They can make a
room seem larger
and brighter by reflecting light.
Mirrors
come in many sizes and shapes.
They can be
framed with wood, metal, plastic
or plaster.
Unframed mirrors come in a variety
of graceful
shapes; they are often engraved
with intriguing
designs. The following should
be considered
when buying mirrors:
- Measure the space where the mirror is to
be hung carefully. The mirror should be neither
too small (so that it looks insignificant)
nor too big (so that it overwhelms the space.)
- Consider whether you want the edges of the
mirror beveled. Beveling finishes off the
edge of an unframed mirror. It also prevents
the back of any frame from reflecting in
the mirror. For a more antique look do not
use beveling.
- Check to see if the mirror should be hung
horizontally or vertically.
Many mirrors
can be hung either way, but
some definitely
have a top and a bottom.
- Some mirrors are mounted so that they can
tilt up or down for different
viewing angles.
- Make sure the style of the frame suits the
effect you wish to achieve
in the room.
For a special effect, consider hanging a
collection of small mirrors of different
sizes together on one wall. |
