Sisal Rugs
Sisal is a strong fiber made from the leaves
of plants such as agaves that grow in a warm,
subtropical climate. Traditionally, these
fibers were used for making rope, but recently
they have been used to manufacture rugs which
have become increasingly popular with decorators
every where. They are inexpensive and durable.
Sisal's natural color and attractive texture
makes it extremely versatile. They can be
installed as wall to wall carpeting, but
more commonly Sisal is used as an area rug.
Sisal is easy to maintain.
The following should be considered
when buying
sisal rugs:
- Sisal comes in a variety of weaves. The classic
design is simple, but it can also be purchased
in heavier, more patterned weaves such as
the basketweave.
- Sisal rugs are usually bound in a cotton
twill or canvas border that
comes in a wide
range of colors. Better ones
have a latex
backing.
- Sisal rugs come in standard rug sizes: 2x3ft.
up to 12x16ft. They can be ordered in custom
sizes, but this can be more expensive.
- Because they are relatively lightweight,
these rugs are easy to order online or through
a catalog.
Clean sisal rugs by vacuuming them. Spills
should be blotted up right away. |
