Leather Floors
If you are searching for a seriously upscale
floor for your home, consider installing
leather. It will give your floor a warm,
soft, natural look that is surprisingly hard
wearing. Although marks and scratches cannot
be removed, over time leather floors develop
a rich patina that cannot be matched by any
other type of flooring. Burnished leather
floors have an intensely luxurious look and
feel. They are beautiful beneath fine area
rugs such as oriental carpets. Because of its superior sound proofing
abilities, leather is particularly appropriate
for dens, libraries and bedrooms.
Leather flooring is usually manufactured
as tiles that have been custom
made to your
specifications. Although this
makes these
floors expensive, it also allows
for designs
using squares, rectangles, hexagons,
octagons
and other shapes combined to
produce unique
results. Border strips can be
used to create
a parquet floor effect. Although
shades of
brown and black are traditional,
leather
can be dyed in a wide range of
colors.
Most leather tiles come prefinished
for stain
resistance, but they must be
occasionally
waxed in order to maintain this
protection.
They should be regularly cared
for by gentle
sweeping or vacuuming. Never
use water on
leather floors. |
