Marine Epoxy
Marine epoxy is a special formulation of
epoxy. Marine epoxies are designed to withstand
water, oil, gas, cold, heat, and pressure
-- the special environment to which ships
and boats are exposed.
Even so, there are two classes of marine
epoxies. The less expensive epoxies tend
to "blush" -- become covered in
a chalky or waxy coating as they cure or
once exposed to water or high humidity. Look
for "non-blushing" epoxies: all
though more expensive, these do not form
the blush layer and generally do not require
sanding between coats in order to get good
adhesion.
While designed for marine use,
marine epoxies
make a good choice for non-marine
uses (such
as toilet repair) that are going
to endure
similar harsh conditions. |
