The Lord God Made Them All
by James Herriot
Herriot's fourth book continues with the
flashback device introduced in his previous
book, All Things Wise and Wonderful. This time, Herriot interweaves stories
of eventful trips to Russia and Turkey in
the early 1960s (on which he accompanied
shipments of livestock) with tales of life
back in Yorkshire.
On balance, the mix of stories in this book
is generally more serious in tone than those
in his other four books in this series. For
those who are drawn to Herriot’s humor, this
can be something of a disappointment. Nonetheless,
this book is a must for all Herriot fans. |
