Walter,
You can buy Gum Arabic. You can also make your own glue by boiling 6 tablespoons white vinegar and then stirring in four 0.1 oz. packets unflavored gelatin and a tablespoon of vanilla extract for flavoring. Apply the mixture in a thin coating to the envelope flap and let dry; to use, moisten the glue.
