White Boards
Whether it is used at home, school, or the
office, a white board (also called a dry
erase board) is a helpful and handy tool
to display information without the mess of
chalk and chalk dust.
White boards are available in two types of
materials. White boards made from melamine
are more economical but are made for light
or moderate use since over time the surface
can wear away causing the board to become
stained from the markers. Those made with
porcelain steel have the advantages of being
more durable, are magnetic, and, if they
have a low gloss finish, can be used as a
projection screen. Both types of boards come
with either a metal or wood frame and in
a vast variety of sizes that range from small
ones that can be held in your lap to huge
ones to be hung on the wall.
Wall mounted boards come in various widths
and heights and often have extras like a
marker tray, corkboard, and clips to hang
maps, flip charts or paper pads. An advantage
to the larger board heights is that tall
individuals, shorter individuals, and those
in wheelchairs can all use the board. If
you prefer to have the white board enclosed
in is own cabinet, there are many models
to choose from. These too, can come with
extras including drawers to hold supplies.
If you need a white board that can be moved
from room to room, choose one mounted on
an easel. Look for ones with large enough
wheels for easy moving and wheel locks so
the board doesn’t move while being used.
White boards don’t have to
be white, though
most of them are. Some boards
do come with
a colored writing surface.
There are also
boards available that have
embedded lines,
visible either to just the
user or to everyone,
for graphs, charts, and various
graphic displays.
And if you would like to store
what is on
the board to a computer, you
can consider
getting a “capture” accessory kit that transfers
the information to the computer, or if you
are really into high tech stuff, getting
an electronic whiteboard. |
