There are five types of baseball gloves (or
mitts): infielder's glove, outfielder's glove,
first baseman's glove, catcher's mitt, and
left-handed gloves. Each is constructed for
optimal performance in a particular position.
The traditional and best gloves are leather.
They have a better feel, breathe in hot weather,
and are durable if properly cared for. However,
a new leather glove is stiff and requires
breaking in. Treated leather starts out softer
and speeds the break in period. The treatment
can also provide better long term protection.
Synthetic gloves are also available. However,
these low cost gloves lack the durability
and comfort of a leather glove. |
