Drivers, also referred to as "woods"
because they were originally made from wood,
are available in variety of clubhead sizes
and materials, shaft materials, angle of
face, weight, and length designed to enhance
the abilities of different players.
Start your search for the perfect driver
for you by choosing the right size clubhead.
The larger clubheads are best for beginning
players because they have larger sweet spots;
but the larger the head, the less control.
Heads can be made from steel or titanium;
titanium is lighter and allows a larger size
without adding weight and thus losing control.
Driver shafts are made from steel or graphite.
Graphite is lighter, more flexible, hits
farther, and absorbs the shock of the hit
better. However, steel shafts allow better
control.
Finally, choose a range of face angles so
that you have the right driver for hole. |
