A golf cart allows you to travel in comfort
and style, but it also lets you
focus on
your game rather than the chore
of hauling
your bag, clubs, and all of the
little extras
along the fairways. Picking the
right golf
car for you really comes down
to a few simple
choices:
- Start by deciding whether to buy a new or
used golf cart. Golf carts typically do not
accumulate too many miles. Add to this the
fact that many are customized for the first
buyer and that when the passion wears off,
the owner buys a new custom model, and you
will realize there are many are excellent
values in the resale market.
- Next, choose between gas or electric powered
carts. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
Generally speaking, a gas powered cart is
noisier and more troublesome to fill-up,
but they don't require a long recharge period
and are more powerful -- important if you
are going to be carrying a full cart up steep
hills. If you do decide on a gas powered
cart, check with the pro shop at your favorite
course before you buy just to be sure that
they have no restrictions on gas powered
carts.
- Look for safety features such as an ignition
key, automatic brakes to keep the cart from
rolling down the hill, and a design that
discourages roll over.
- Finally, decide on the number of seats, either
two or four. You should also consider the
durability of the seat covers since they
are exposed to the sun and weather and the
abuse from riders constantly sliding in and
out of them.
To settle on your final selection, check
the floor and bag lining areas for protection
against rough service. You don't want the
cleats on your shoes to mar the interior
the first time you use it. You also don't
want it to be a tough job to clean your cart
of the dirt and cut grass you will track
into it from the course.
Look over the baskets, cups, and storage
areas -- remember the main purpose is to
haul your gear around, so you should be able
to get to it conveniently. Get a car top
only if you plan to play in particulary sunny
climates or often run into foul weather. |
